Maptician Announces 2023 Attorney Engagement Survey Results Now Available

ATLANTA, GA – (August 15, 2023) – Maptician, the market leading end-to-end technology solution for the hybrid workplace, announces the release of the results of the Maptician 2023 Attorney Engagement Survey results. The survey, conducted in Q2 of 2023, represents over 200 law firm offices, nearly 9,000 attorneys and 5,436,978 sq ft of office space across the Am Law 100/200, mid-sized and regional firms, and measure attorney engagement through RTO compliance, attorney time in office, hybrid model types, and space utilization.  The results evidenced the importance of supporting peer-seeking behaviors with technology as well as the need for firms to improve hoteling strategies with the same. The results of the survey are available for download here.

As law firms continue to grapple with making hybrid operations successful, concern is on the rise about attorney engagement.  A recent Microsoft study highlighted the value of peer-seeking behaviors for organizations to make hybrid models successful.  In this report, the survey showed that the vast majority of employees are motivated to go into the office and go more frequently if they knew their “work friends” were there and if they knew their direct team members would be there.[1] However, the majority of firms (60%)[2] have adopted no new technology whatsoever to support hybrid or RTO, and the most popular tool reported by firms (13%) to help connect attorneys in a hybrid office is Microsoft Outlook.

Powerfully, the single most influential factor positively affecting attorney time in the office from the  Maptician 2023 Attorney Engagement Survey was the existence of “presence” technology.  Presence technology supports peer seeking behaviors of attorneys helping coworkers see who is in the office on what day, what seat, what floor and what city.

According to the Survey, presence technology more than doubles attorney time spent in the office as measured by utilization. Second to presence technology was hybrid seat strategy type.  The data showed that firms that implemented a mix of assigned and hoteling seats – but with a majority of assigned seats—far outpaced their majority hoteling peer firms by a factor of nearly 2:1.

The Maptician Survey also showed that space utilization continues to hover just below 50%, resulting in a cost of, $74,475,561.6 in real estate per month is not being utilized across respondents.

Maptician Chief Executive Officer, Alaa Pasha, comments, “Our mission is to not only create an elegant, simple and seamless experience of the modern hybrid office for law firms in a complete, end-to-end platform, but to provide insights and thought leadership that help them make great decisions.  We’re thrilled to offer these unique insights to our law firm clients and to the market to help gain greater control and understanding out of what factors support attorney engagement.”
