We have heard and read several stories about how people make good money by writing articles from the comfort of their home or sitting on a beach. The fact is that most freelance authors make meager amount of money, which is sometimes not enough to justify even as a side-job.
To make real money, you must be an expert author on a niche. This can be on technology, mobile phones, artificial intelligence, shopping advice or medical writing.
Authors originate and prepare written material, such as scripts, stories, advertisements, and other materials. Authors who are ready to write on any topic are like the jack of all trades master of none. Generic authors are assigned any topic; they do some web search on that topic and essentially rewrite it again in their own words. They have no expertise, write no compelling content that attracts users to read their articles. Their articles may even contain misinformation. Even if they are assigned a weird topic like “Collection Agency Near Me“, they will somehow write on it. Such authors can never make good money online. They just know how to create a 500 words article stuffed with some crappy content.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the top 90% of authors make more than $122,000 per year. That is nearly $59 per hour. This was published in BLS, Occupational Employment and Wages, May 2019, for the 27-3043 Writers and Authors category.
Now let us return to our discussion on medical authors and why they are in so much demand. These authors should ideally have some sort of education or working experience in the medical or dental industry. There are about a million doctors and physiotherapists in the United States. Every year thousands of medical practices require their website to be built, and doctors are ready to spend good money on quality content. They do not want re-writers, but real authors who can create good quality and compelling content. Such authors can partner with web-designers who mutually deliver good quality websites for physicians, dentists, hospitals and veterinarians. Even medical equipment manufacturers and medical collection agencies require healthcare writers. For example, to write on a topic like “Urgent Care Collection Agency“, an author needs to understand the concept behind the Urgent Care clinics and how the doctor-patient relationship works.
Technical authors are the highest paying authors, but there is a huge competition in this field. A medical author, on the other hand, works with individual medical equipment manufacturers, medical, dental, hospitals and urgent care clinics. They can always start locally before expanding their territory. There is less competition in this field.
Medical authors who have executed more than 50-100 projects can demand commanding rates. Doctors are a lot more confident that the content of their website is being written by an expert and not a generic author. They are ready to pay a top dollar for it. Medical collection agencies also publish monthly blogs on their websites and are generally ready to pay between $200 to $400 for a long search engine optimized article.
Medical authors must also spend a few hours reading medical and dental websites or magazines every week so that they are aware of the latest discoveries and techniques in their area of expertise. Medical authors can also do part-time projects on freelance sites like Fiverr and Up-work to make money.
