Due to the Covid-19 pandemic keeping the airways healthy is vital. Bad posture affects breathing and lungs capacity

After Covid-19 began to spread around the world, the importance of maintaining healthy airways is vital. According to the WHO, one of the high-risk groups is those with chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma.

In 2006, a study was conducted with several disabled people using wheelchairs. The report of this study from the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation found that poor posture does affect breathing and lung capacity.

An inadequate posture generates tension in the muscles of the pectoral area, in the dorsal area and in the diaphragm. This situation affects the respiratory capacity of the lungs. Good posture must be maintained to take care of the lungs and help them breathe better.

If maintaining a good posture isn’t possible, according to the different opinions of specialists, the diaphragm cannot move freely in the rib cage. To breathe correctly, a miracle is not needed, these simple tips to take care of and maintain good posture should be followed:

  • When sitting, the spine must be well supported on the backrest.

  • When standing, the support should fall on both legs equally.

  • When lying down, you should avoid bending over yourself.

Doing physical activities is always great: like walking, simple exercises for instance yoga or pilates. In addition, specialized products such as postural correctors can be used and combined with simple orthopedic instruments like Cordus-Sacrus to help maintain a correct posture. In the same way, a balanced diet is needed as well as avoiding bad habits.

It is important to know that there are other types of disorders caused by poor posture. Chief among these are headache, back pain, migraines, and shoulder strain. Pain relievers are often prescribed to alleviate these problems, although the condition is not resolved at the root.
