Now’s the time to bust these outdated myths. We’re currently doing a fantastic job, but we could do better. Before Title IX just 1 of each 27 girls played with sports. No wonder I never had an opportunity. The National Federation of State High School Associations claims the stats are currently 1 of every 2.5 women are playing sports.
There are still many women. Budget cuts, support from family, and lack of women coaches contribute about sports to the decision of a girl. “High schools across America aren’t providing equal opportunities for women to participate in sports, and some are even cutting athletic opportunities in ways that exacerbate existing gender inequities or make new ones” according to the National Women’s Law Center.
The benefits of being active, whether female or male, far outweigh the dangers. Sports boost self-confidence grades in college plus psychological and physical health based on a study by the World Health Organization. We must provide our children all the chance. With our support, we could make a difference in their lives.
