CBD Picks for Fibromyalgia

CBD (cannabidiol) is a form of cannabinoid. It’s a chemical compound found naturally in cannabis. CBD is not like tetrahydrocannabinol, another type of cannabinoid.

The availability of CBD products has increased significantly since 2018, when a federal bill legalized hemp production and sales in the United States. Although some state laws prohibit the sale of hemp products in certain circumstances, many states have adopted the federal government’s policy of legalization.

Because of federal prohibitions on cannabis and hemp, research into CBD has been restricted for decades. Although research into CBD’s potential benefits is still limited, early studies have shown promising results. This is particularly true for issues such as sleep and anxiety.

The market for CBD remains unregulated, as is the case with many other health and wellness products.

The Food and Drug Administration doesn’t approve of or police CBD products. The FDA doesn’t provide any guidelines or terminology for CBD companies.

The manufacturers are responsible for the governance of CBD products.

It is important to do your research before you buy any CBD products. You can avoid inferior CBD products by knowing the signs that make them good and saving money.

Can CBD help fibromyalgia?

Research has suggested that cannabis could be used to treat fibromyalgia symptoms.

Numerous studies have been done to examine the effects of cannabis (HT0_ THC strains , hemp) on fibromyalgia in general and the symptoms.

CBD may help with fibromyalgia. However, research also includes other cannabinoids.

The majority of studies on managing fibromyalgia using cannabinoids included THC in their doses. THC, the active ingredient in cannabis that produces a “high”, is not legal in all states.

These studies showed that CBD and THC can help with pain in fibromyalgia sufferers.

However, because THC was present in the study participants’ doses, it is not yet possible to determine if CBD could have an effect on their own.

Like THC, CBD interacts with the body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS). This complex system is responsible for signaling cells throughout our bodies.

Your ECS can be affected by CBD and THC, which are both cannabinoids. Research shows that the ECS can send signals to your brain that reduce inflammation and pain. These benefits may be of benefit to people suffering from fibromyalgia.

It may be better to consider CBD use as a means to treat a subset of symptoms of fibromyalgia, rather than treating the entire condition.

We already see many successful studies in this area.

CBD Benefits Research

  • Chronic pain. A 2018 review found that CBD could be used to manage chronic pain such as the one experienced by people with fibromyalgia.
  • Quality of sleep. A small 2019 survey showed that CBD users reported better sleep quality and less anxiety.
  • Another 2018 review discovered that CBD may be beneficial for conditions such as depression. This is a common condition in people who suffer from fibromyalgia.

These studies found that CBD use had few or no adverse effects. People with fibromyalgia may find this reason to experiment with CBD to see if it helps.

How to Shop

CBD products can feel like a puzzle. You don’t know what the solution is. It can be difficult to understand the terminologies and claims made about CBD products.

With a little research and some pointers, you will be able to find the best CBD products for your needs.

Recognizing a trustworthy brand or company

When searching for a CBD supplier, online reviews are a great place to start. You can learn a lot from the experiences of others about the product’s quality and dependability.

However, word of mouth is not the only way to gauge a company’s reputation. Also, consider how the company presents their products and what results you can expect.

Without reliable third-party testing results, statements of potency will not be valid.

Brands who invest the time and effort to get third-party testing done will be more likely to share their results online and in store. Consider it a red flag if they do not.

Confusion can lead to confusion

It can be confusing to understand some terms used in CBD ingredients. Hempseed oil can sometimes be used in CBD products as a carrier oil. It is a neutral oil and can be used topically or in combination with other CBD products.

Hempseed oil, and other hempseed products, don’t contain any CBD. You should ensure that your product label contains CBD, cannabidiol or hemp extract.

You’re not buying CBD if the product label states hempseed oil, hemp seed oil, or Cannabis Sativa.

Accessing the rest

For easier use, carrier oils such as grapeseed oil and coconut oil, or MCT oil, are often used to house CBD/hemp extracts. These oils can help stabilize the cannabinoid, and preserve it for long-term storage.

These oils can be mildly flavored, but they still have a flavor. If you want to use a tincture, think about how it tastes.

Some CBD products, such as gummies, are also made with additional ingredients to enhance flavor and color. For additional flavor, oils and extracts may be used. Sweeteners may also be added.

These tempting claims might seem too good to be true

The FDA does not monitor or test CBD products. (The FDA will however issue warnings to companies that make unsubstantiated claims.

This leaves CBD companies with a lot of the labeling, claims and marketing decisions.

One rule to remember: If it sounds too good to true, it most likely is.

Reputable brands will provide guidance about the expected benefits and refer to third-party certificates to verify their products’ potency.

Taking claims into perspective

A CBD company may not make every claim that carries weight. Labels may claim that the CBD products are made from organic hemp. If this is important to you, make sure you look for it in the products.

Keep in mind, however, that this claim is not regulated by any U.S agency, so it could very well be false.

The same applies to the expression “U.S. grown.” It can be difficult for people to verify this claim and it is not regulated.

Deciding on a CBD product

The number of CBD products available has increased as well. You can now buy lotions and oils as well as gummies with CBD. These products can have different levels of CBD.

Some brands create products that target specific issues like CBD oils to treat pain. They may also include additional ingredients that have been proven to help with those conditions.

How to Use

CBD oils and gummies are the easiest way to get CBD. They are also discreet and portable.

CBD gummies come premeasured and have a set amount in each gummy. It is easy to change or know your dosage.

Tinctures and oils are often ingested under the tongue. This way, the effects of cannabinoid may take several hours to feel.

High concentration is required for topical CBD products such as balms and lotions. Because CBD can’t pass through the skin barrier, it’s important to be highly concentrated.

Vaporized CBD can be used to quickly experience the benefits of CBD but it is not the best. This should be avoided by people with lung conditions or sensitive to smoking, as well as those who live with smokers.

Talk to the staff at your dispensary or local store for more information about CBD dosing. Many companies provide live chats and respond to emails if you buy online.

Some products can take some time before you feel the benefits. Start with a very small amount the first time you use it to get used to what it is like. If you feel the effect is not enough, you can increase the dose.

Try a new product

It is a good rule of thumb to start with low doses when you first take CBD. It doesn’t matter if you are a first-time user of CBD or if you are trying out a new CBD product for the first time, it is advisable to start slowly and increase later.

Safety and side effects

CBD research has shown very few side effects. However, it is important to be aware that side effects can occur and should be considered before you try CBD.

CBD can cause adverse side effects such as:

  • Fatigue
  • dizziness
  • diarrhea
  • Changes in appetite
  • Weight changes
  • interaction with medications or dietary supplements
  • Interactions with certain foods, such as grapefruit

Consuming CBD products orally should be avoided. Combining them may cause an increase in of the CBD in your blood. This can increase the chance of adverse events and side effects.

It’s important to consult a doctor before you start using CBD. You can also look together for possible interactions between CBD and medications.

You may be able to get advice from your healthcare provider about other things to consider when shopping for a product.

The takeaway

While CBD research is still in its early stages of development, there are promising signs for those suffering from fibromyalgia.

CBD could be added to the list of treatment options for fibromyalgia as more information becomes available about CBD’s effects on the body’s pain receptors.

This is why CBD may be a good option for you.

Talk to your healthcare provider about your interests and any other considerations before you take your first dose.
