Can CBD Oil Help Treat Asthma?

Cannabidiol is becoming more popular to treat a wide range of conditions. This cannabinoid may help with your asthma symptoms.

CBD, like other cannabinoids, is also derived from cannabis plants. CBD is not a hallucinogen, unlike marijuana (often called cannabis). It has a low tetrahydrocannabinol content (typically less than 0.3%). With the guidance of a doctor both CBD and marijuana can be used to treat pain. Many people are attracted to CBD oil because of its potential to reduce inflammation.

Asthma is a chronic lung disease. It’s caused by inflammation of the airways. Flare-ups can lead to wheezing and coughing.

Can CBD oil be used to treat asthma, despite its potential role in inflammation of the airways? Find out more about the research and when to discuss this treatment option with your doctor.

Can CBD be used to relieve symptoms of asthma?

CBD is receiving increasing attention due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and medicinal properties. Research suggests that CBD may have more neuroprotective properties than vitamins C or E.

Your lungs may become more sensitive to asthma triggers due to CBD oil. This means less flare-ups, and symptoms like coughing.

A 2019 study showed that CBD reduced inflammation and hyperresponsiveness in mice with allergic asthma. To determine if CBD oil can be used to treat allergic-induced asthma, further research in humans is necessary.

What is the best way to use CBD oil for asthma treatment?

CBD oil can be taken orally by placing the required number of drops into your mouth and swallowing them.

Despite the fact that researchers used mist CBD oils to conduct animal studies, it is not recommended for humans to smoke or vape CBD oil. This is because of potential irritation to the airways.

There are no clinical studies that have been conducted on CBD oil and asthma in humans. Therefore, the proper dosages of CBD oil for asthma are not known.

Research has so far shown that CBD can be safely consumed in amounts up to 1,500 mg (mg) per day.

Your doctor may recommend CBD oil for your asthma treatment. They can also suggest the right dosage.

Your body weight and the product you are using will determine the right dosage. Your response to treatment may lead your doctor to adjust the dosage.

What side effects can CBD be used to treat asthma?

Side effects of using CBD oil for other purposes, despite its potential benefits for asthma, have been documented in animal and vitro studies. Side effects include:

  • nausea
  • diarrhea
  • Skin rashes
  • A decreased appetite
  • Sleepiness or insomnia
  • An abnormal liver function

To determine if CBD is safe and effective for asthma, long-term human studies are necessary. CBD research in humans has been limited and focused on short-term use.

Can CBD interact or interfere with other asthma medications?

It is not known if CBD oil can interact with other asthma medications. Talk to your doctor before you stop using your asthma medication or alter any dosages.

Because CBD affects the enzymes your body uses for metabolizing these medications, it is possible for CBD to interact with them. If you are taking any of these medications, talk to your doctor before you start using CBD oil.

Are certain CBD products or strains recommended for asthma?

Choosing the right CBD oil can seem daunting given the number of CBD products available. It is important to choose a product made in the United States that has been tested by third parties.

Hemp-based oils might be the best because they have less THC than marijuana.

It is also important to choose a CBD oil brand that is pure and organic. Some CBD products contain pesticides and microorganisms.

Does CBD have the potential to treat COPD symptoms?

Similar to asthma, further research is required to determine if CBD is an effective treatment for chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD).

CBD has been shown to reduce inflammation in the lungs and improve function in animals, but more human research is needed to confirm its safety and effectiveness.

Talk to a doctor

CBD taken without the supervision of your doctor may increase side effects and reduce its effectiveness. Your doctor will recommend the right dosage and monitor side effects. They can also assess your lung function.

CBD oil can be used as part of a complementing treatment plan. This could also include traditional asthma medication. Do not stop taking prescription medication without first consulting your doctor.

In clinical trials, CBD oil was found to have anti-inflammatory properties. This could be a promising development in asthma treatment.

However, CBD oil cannot be used to replace a traditional asthma treatment plan until more human studies are done. If you have any concerns about your asthma symptoms, talk to your doctor. He or she may recommend CBD oil. They will be able to provide advice on dosage and monitor for any side effects.
